I love stories about kids discovering the joy of reading through comics. Why Read Comics? has a good one, about his seven-year-old son discovering Spiral-Bound.

Spiral Bound compelled my seven year old to put down the video games for a day, to read to the point of getting sick. It did this not by flashy merchandise tie ins, by lifelike CGI graphics (this is a black and white book … no color!), force feedback controllers, or peer pressure. It did this by being a slab of ink on paper that offered quality entertainment and nothing more.

Most exciting, the kid’s ready for more, moving on to Bone.
