Yikes, I couldn't even ID cookies by their picture when they were featured on a recent Cooking Light magazine, leaving me combing the magazine for the caption that told me which delicious-looking cookie on the cover corresponded to which recipe.

Now I've just got to work on getting my spouse interested in joining me in these quests...

You think that's bad, there's one about English cookies (only they call them biscuits) where you have to id them by look. The riddles I could figure out through a process of elimination and analyzing the structure of the type of answer expected.

Glad you're enjoying it. :)

Aaaaauuugh! I just picked up a pack tonight and this is getting to be quite addicting.

I did get one puzzle, though, that was too English for me to handle (one about Christmas cracker riddles). Puzzles are one thing, but trying to figure out puns on words I'm unfamiliar with in the first place... very frustrating (especially for only seven points).

Thanks for the background! That history of ARGs may also help with one of the card puzzles. :)

I'm a little curious about how well the live-action stuff he mentions will work across the Atlantic, but we'll have to see first if Perplex City takes off in the US.

I've known for several years (through the internet, and one meeting in person) two of the people behind Perplex City, Adrian and Dan Hon. They're very smart, imaginative and adventurous guys, and were two of the primary folks involved with solving that "AI"-movie internet-mystery-game (I believe Alternate Reality Game is the term that's been coined). I think that was the start of their serious interest in these sorts of things, and their current work on them. From Adrian's blog, here's some of his thoughts on this sort of thing. The cards idea seems to be a new twist, but the internet community aspect is still a strong one in Perplex. I haven't got involved with these sorts of games myself, but I wish them, their company, their games all the best, and I'm glad you're enjoying it, Johanna!

Ooooh, cool, I think the North American other store is that cool game store near Comic Relief.

Hm, you might have me curious enough to put off taking my iPod in for repairs one more day...
