Harvey Awards in Baltimore

You may have heard, at the end of last year, that the Harvey Awards will be held in 2006 at the Baltimore Comic-Con.
I’ve been working with the convention staff for the last few years, so I’m curious to know what people expect from award shows. What makes you decide whether to attend an award ceremony? Are you willing to pay to have a dinner? Should alcohol be available? Are you interested in attending the Harveys? I hope my intelligent and creative commentators will provide some useful feedback to pass along.

I only attend awards ceremonies if I’m friends with somebody who is nominated.

>What makes you decide whether to attend an award ceremony?< Mostly if something from AdHouse is nominated. Also, if I'm at the show/con and nothing else is going on.
>Are you willing to pay to have a dinner? Should alcohol be available?< Yes, on dinner if it's worth it. It makes it easier to eat and attend instead of running out of time to do both. Also, finger food might be a thought. And Alcohol most definately should be there. I think without it, people who might want a drink will get bored and leave otherwise... unless you have someone rip up a Wizard.
>Are you interested in attending the Harveys?<
Yep.

Who is up for what award is a biggie, if I don’t know and/or like the choices I could be less interested. (that’s why I haven’t watched the Oscars lately)
A good host, not one that is all “Look at me!” but someone who knows what they are doing and can play well to a crowd.
Also depends if I have friends I can sit with, and can chat quietly with about the show. (like I did with KC at SPX’s Ignatz a few years back) So make sure it is at a good time and date, that doesn’t interfere with everyone’s travel plans.
Are you willing to pay to have a dinner?
Depends on how much, as I’m actually kind of planning a “Gosh comic cons sure seem to have gotten expensive lately.” entry for my blog when I have time.:)
I know for me it can be quite expensive already to go to a show, so more spending could be prohibitive.
Plus what they serve, so a choice or allowing to reserve might be good.
Should alcohol be available?
Yes, but with some moderation. I wouldn’t want to have to sit through a show with a drunk table being loud and disruptive. I know part of con life is alcohol and smoking, but I would hope that everyone could be adult about it at an awards show. (a question you missed, should smoking be allowed?)
Are you interested in attending the Harveys?
Sure, if I was there and for the reasons above.
I hope my intelligent and creative commentators
Not sure I’m one of those, but I hope I was helpful.
