Judging from the comments, more of my readers like Doctor Who than I expected, so here’s another tidbit: Dwayne McDuffie on his like of the characters of Rose and her mother.

Yeah, pretty odd that the creator of Rocket would like a young female hero, who despite her poverty, dreams of a better world “and the sudden possibility of flight,” meets an extraordinary man who used to be a hero but stopped because of a personal failing and inspires him to become a hero again.

That’s a clever comparison that I hadn’t noticed before, but there are a lot of similarities in the characters that go beyond the shared initial R.
