I want to go on record as saying that we here at Oni Press LOVE Andi Watson. We want to be in the Andi Watson business. We will happily publish anything the guy lets us.

We all think LITTLE STAR is a fantastic book, but we’ve had a difficult time selling this insightful and introspective look at fatherhood in the bi-monthly serialized-format.

Like all of his books, we are sure it will have a long happy life as a collected volume, but the floppies are becoming a more and more difficult sale.

It might be an issue of subject matter. It might be an issue of “waiting for the trade”. Who knows???

So… we will happily continue to publish works by Andi for as long as he lets us. The real issue is what format these future stories will be in. That will have to be decided on a case by case basis and based on estimations of sales in a sometimes strange and sometimes depressing market.

Isn’t this sort of a case of Oni Press and the like training us well? I came to expect the collections, which were a nicer package with extras. That it became natural to just wait for that?

One thing about comics today that is far different than it was even 5 years ago. There is more I want to read today than i can keep up with. So even with someone’s work I love like Andi’s, I’ve got to get it in the format I prefer.

I think I would have too (although then I wouldn’t have been able to write the intro for V2)… although I do think that there’s a change in tone between the two parts that is emphasized with the two books.

I haven’t had a chance to read Little Star yet, but I’m looking forward to doing so.

I think I would have enjoyed Love Fights a lot more if it had come in one collection. I ended up liking the comic, but even broken into just two parts, it didn’t work as well as it might have in one.

That said, I’ve enjoyed Little Star in singles.
