“Foreshadowing… your key to QUALITY literature!”

Where did this faux advertising phrase first come from?

  1. Joe Dowling Says:

I believe it’s from an old Bloom County comic strip

  2. David Oakes Says:

It was used in “Bloom County”, circa 1986. It became the tag line for my college crowd, used at every possible instance. (We went to an Engineering College in the middle of nowhere. It was as Literate as we got…)

But I am concerned about Johanna saying “first”, and the fact she watches a lot of Turner CLassic Movies. I can just see Tony Randall turning to the camera and drolling out the line…

“But I never read the editor’s notes!”

    Yeah, Bloom County.

  4. Johanna Says:

Thanks, everyone! I knew you’d know.
