Thanks very much for the good wishes, everyone! This year will also be the 7th anniversary of this site (under the comicsworthreading.com URL), which means copper (traditional -- and isn't that used in computer chips) or a desk set (um...).

Rachel, the internet long predates me, but I've pretty much seen the web grow up.

Matt, some day we've GOT to have an in-person reunion! Just Saturday I went to a baby shower for another Trinity grad and caught up with several other alums -- do you remember Vivian and Xandria?

Brigid, ah, bitnet. And bang addresses! Such memories.

Here's to many more! (clink)

congrats from me too!!

I'm not a web pioneer (surfing the web since 98), so unfortunately I can't tell of any fond memories from the very beginning. I just started using the web when I went to university, before that I could always do without using a pc. Funny that I find it hard to imagine not having a pc and the web at my disposal nowadays.
For the site I'd like to say that it's very good you're doing it, Johanna, cause it gives one a view on comic related stuff that's hard to find anywhere else and you really seem to care about the things you post.
so I always enjoy checking by.

Congratulations, Johanna! I love your site--it's definitely one of the more constructive uses of the internet.

I'm married to a physicist (15 years!) and we used to send e-mail back and forth when we were dating. We used Bitnet, and I would send him an e-mail and watch it bounce from node to node on its way to him. I also remember him getting all excited about one of the early web browsers, Mosaic maybe, and my sister and I rolling our eyes because it took so long to show a single image. At the time I thought it was entertaining but pointless. Shows what I know.

Through the miracles of Google archives, I can actively trace my participation on the internet message boards back sixteen years. A few weeks back, with the news that Martin Wagner of Hepcats "fame" was planning on bringing the series back in webcomics format, I went back and dug up some of some of my old posts on the subject. This one is from Oct. 1991:

http://groups.google.com/group/rec.arts.comics/browse_thread/thread/e10625444b469857/7ca02b31a586690d?hl=en#7ca02b31a586690d

Some of the stuff I wrote on the 'net was interesting, some of it boring, lots of it stupid -- hey, I was young! And all of it is archived for eternity. For a short while there, I was the official net news source for Hepcats. There are some messages from before then, dating back to late 1990 -- the very first message, with my name attached to it, that is archived at Google is just me asking to be "subcribed" to rec.arts.comics, sixteen years ago. Back when I was still a young kid in college, typing on those damned green-glowing VT100 terminals. There may be some older stuff floating around (I did participate in a couple of non-newsgroups discussion groups before that date), but not by much.

Believe it or not, Johanna, your only one of two people that I know from Trinity U (the other person is Joe Rosales). I'm terrible at keeping in touch with people, and I wonder where some of them have ended up, all these years later.

Congratulations on your 'versary! Wow. 20 years. You veritably baby-sat the Internet in its infancy, didn't you? Hmm, I only came on board aroun '96. So it has been ten years only for me.

I was trying to figure out how long I've been online, you were the DC Online moderator on AOL at the time.

Shoot, and I thought I was something because I had my ten-year webiversary December 2005, and my 15th year online anniversary this past February.

All hail CLI and no threading!
