By the way, I’d second the request for Death Note, which I believed you mentioned was on your ‘to read’ list earlier.

Having just remembered what Skip Beat! is (due to grabbing the wrong issue of Shojo Beat on my way to the doctors’ office yesterday and getting to reread the preview) I’d be curious to hear more about that one. My reaction to the preview was that it looks cute, but not compelling enough to add to my crowded reading list.

Johanna, I have to sort of wonder if part of the lack of “read the manga first!” commentary is because you listed mostly volumes of series that you’ve covered previously.

While one like Skip Beat! I have never even heard of.

I know that second part is why I didn’t list many of the GNs and submissions. Because those I’d heard of you’d covered before, and was usually how I heard of them. Or were thing I have no idea what they even are so I wouldn’t know whether to say “yes cover them!’ or not.

Regarding serializations in newspapers, Art Spiegelmans, "In the Shadow of No Towers" was serialized in the German newspaper, Die Zeit, and excerpts appeared in The Independent, and The Forward. Neither Safe Area Gorazde or Maus are light reading, but it's possible they might make an interesting comparison. (I don't know for sure, as I haven't read the former yet. I have read Sacco's Palestine, though.)

Katherine, I’d read that about the serialization, and I wish more of Posy Simmonds’ work was available over here.

David, I’m glad I have a Find feature — for a second, I was wondering why you thought I was planning to read Waiting for Godot. (Wouldn’t that make for one boring comic?)

Kneon, given the length of that list, you think I’m looking to ADD to it? Sheesh!

Craig, I’m so happy someone else has heard of Billi 99! It was a very nice surprise to come across it.

Aro, yeah, I try to look on the bright side, although I hate disappointing people who do good work that I don’t talk about.

Hmm, some of these I’ve read your thoughts on before and know it is just a matter of you updating and bringing those over to here.

Of those that I don’t think you’ve covered before, I’d most like to see your thoughts on:

American Virgin – The premise of this series sounds interesting, and I’m guessing they must be close to a collection. So a review would be timely to know if I want to read it.

Monster – I had a weird reaction to these two volumes, and I’m curious to see how you do with them.

(a manga you don’t list, but I know you have to cover that I want to see you do so is Death Note too)

I’d be curious to see your thoughts on

Wonder Woman #1 – Heinberg really handled female characters well on Young Avengers, so this has me curious. (if good, it’ll hopefully last past the so far planned 6 issue run)

Nana #3 – I just wonder if this volume focuses more on the cool, rocking Nana, than the wishy washy wimpy one.

That’s quite the list! I imagine it must a little frustrating since I’m sure it grows faster than it shrinks, but on the other hand, you’ll always have something to write about.
I’d particuarly like to know your thoughts on Scrooge McDuck, which is an old favorite of mine since I was a kid.

I'd love to hear about Rabbi's Cat and Safe Area Gorazde. For your own enjoyment, I would recommend Gemma Bovery, and note that it has an unusal history, having been first serialised in the Guardian (at the rate of one or two pages a week) before being collected. Posy Simmonds' current work, Tamara Drewe, is also being serialised in the Guardian. This strikes me as an interesting potential future path of development for graphic fiction. The Guardian has also published short graphic stories by Joe Sacco.
