Sabrina Collection Coming

Sabrina collection cover
The Magic Revisited

Regular readers of this site know that I’ve been asking for collections of the new manga-style Sabrina the Teenage Witch for a while now, and Archie’s just announced that they will be doing one. Yay!

The Magic Revisited is due October 18, collecting the first four issues of the manga revamp for $7.49 US. That price point puts it between DC’s youth-oriented superhero digests (which collect five issues for $6.99) and Viz’s girl-targeted shôjo manga (almost twice the page count for $8.99, but in black and white, not color).

That title makes it sound historical, which would fit in with the majority of Archie’s collections. I wish they’d picked something more “zappy”, not something that makes me think “Sabrina: The Rerun”. Still, it’s a start. The real tests will be to see whether it’s made available in bookstores (I can’t imagine why not) and whether it does well enough to continue the series. I hope it does; I’d love to see a new audience introduced to the fun of the teen witch’s manga adventures.

That does sound kind of odd. I mean I would think there is a part of audience that this will be new to. Not just readers like us who want it in a more permanant form.

Can’t say I love the sound of the title, but I do think it’s a great idea for them to collect the issues in a book. I have girls in my elementary library that are crazy about W.I.T.C.H. (there is literally a race to see who will get the new volume first), Peach Fuzz, Yotsuba &!, and Allison Dare, but they won’t touch individual issues of comics. I think Sabrina will grab them in the collected edition. Now if DC will just collect the original Amethyst mini-series. :)
