It’s hard to explain why the New Gods, by Kirby (and by Dini, Timm, Murakami and co. on the animated side) are/were so compelling to me, and I don’t even try to explain it to the uninitiated. Guess you either get bit or you don’t…

He’d done the same thing years earlier with Kirby’s other god character, Thor — and those collections are well worth getting too.

The quality sustained through the entire run, and there were some other very cool back-up stories by big-name creators (as in “talented,” not “Wizard Top Ten”) as well.
