I took a flip through the recent Haunted Tank Showcase collection for a rather odd reason: I’ve been told that I’m related to J.E.B. Stuart. (For those unfamiliar with the concept, the Haunted Tank was a series of war comics featuring a tank commander who saw Stuart’s ghost.) My great-aunt Eliza Raemey Smith, who did a lot of genealogy research, used to say that he was some kind of cousin, although I never got the details from her before she passed away.

So I took a look. Imagine my surprise to find out that the lead character, named after the famous Confederate general, was Jeb Stuart *Smith*! I know, it’s an incredibly common name, but it was still a little bit of a spooky coincidence to me.

I got the book, and I’ve been digging it. The stories are quite entertaining, and that Russ Heath art is really sharp. I’d love to know who lettered the thing.

That’s pretty nifty. Are the stories any good?

I always check out the Bonnie and Clyde stuff for the same reason, since my grandfather used to say he was his second cousin. There used to even be an old photograph of a family reunion with him in it, but it got lost somewhere after he passed away.

James… I blush to admit I gave up on it, because war stories just aren’t my thing, and I do miss the color sometimes. Great family story you have!

Ray, glad you liked it! I spoke briefly to Mr. Heath at Heroes Con, and he seemed very nice.
