Good for Oni! They’re going to be doing a My Name Is Earl comic (link no longer available; project cancelled) based on the TV show. The script coordinator for the show will be assisting with the comic, which argues for consistency, always good in trying a licensed product. (No word specifically on how, though.)
For me, it’ll depend on whether they get Joy’s voice right — she’s my favorite part of the show. Ray Fawkes and Cameron Stewart’s The Apocalypstix also sounds like something worth watching out for.

Johanna, this is the only show I watch on the big three. I love all the characters. Plus I’m a sucker for good redemption comedy.

So will you be trying the comic?

Johanna, I am one of those evil people who will wait for the trade. If I like what I see, I will definitely pick up the book. I think there is a lot of potential for a great comic if they get the right creative time. I hope they go for something stylized like the Clerks cartoon and not something photo-realistic.

I’m inclined to wait for a trade, myself, if only because Oni puts out such nice trades and I know that, in the end, I’ll want the version that can be easily stored.
Then again, maybe I’ll be impatient — buy the first issue to satisfy my curiosity and leave it on a BART train for someone else to find and read.

Didn’t we learn our lesson with the “Welcome Back Kotter” comic?

Lyle, what a great plan!
Kevin at the Newsarama blog lightly questions the choice, but sitcoms make great adaptations, because the only consistency that matters is the characters. An issue can be like another episode without worrying too much about tightly coordinating (which, with Hollywood, isn’t going to happen).

Vincent, I think I still have a couple of issues of that somewhere. :)
