Goodbye, Fourth Rail

The Fourth Rail, the review site for Randy Lander and Don MacPherson, is shutting down. From Don:

I’m guessing that for longtime readers, this won’t come as much of a surprise. The regularity of updates has gradually slowed over the past year or two, and of course, Randy “semi-retired” from the site a few months ago. The fact of the matter is that my life and Randy’s life have changed radically in recent years — for the better.

Lots more in the farewell message at the link. I’d say it’s the end of an era, but I think that particular era ended a while ago. I rarely agreed with Don and Randy, but I was happy to consider them friends, and I have fond memories of us all back in the day on Usenet and at San Diego in 2003.

I had no idea that the two’s partnership was inspired by me and Elayne writing together. My goodness, how long ago that was!

The site ran for five years, near eternity online. Best of luck to the guys as they launch new, separate projects.
