This Escapist magazine article talks to an “Online Guerilla Marketer”, or someone hired to lie to you about who they are so they can sell you products.
I miss the good old days, when people lied to you because they wanted you to think they weren’t a nerd. (In the good old days, everyone online was a nerd.)

I’ve heard about this before… I wonder how they made the ROI good. It seems it would take a lot of investment, since (at least in the cases I heard of) it sounds like a decent amount of time is spent just building credibility (even if that’s done by creating a history of message board posts with less than twenty words each).
