Distant Soil Webcomic Coming

Colleen Doran has announced that she’ll be launching a weekly webcomic soon. She’s remastering her “Seasons of Spring” backup story from the early issues of A Distant Soil to prepare it for eventual print collection, and she’s planning to run the pages on the web first.

This story, concentrating on the daily life of the psychic children before they went on the run and found out they were heirs to an interstellar empire1, was my favorite part of the series, because her portrayal of loving family life was so good. I’m looking forward to seeing it again.

1 I wrote this cheesy on purpose to be funny. It’s a good, involving epic.

Update: Colleen has posted a more in-depth introduction to the project.

Cool! I’m going to have to keep an eye out for it. I finally got around to picking up A Distant Soil and just finished volume 1. Judging by one of the comments over on Colleen Doran’s blog, I shouldn’t have to worry about spoilers at this point.

This is good news. We are getting some wonderful “paper” series on line now - Girl Genius & Finder are two of my regulars, and ADR will be a third. I hope it works out financially for the creators. I still buy the books when they’re published - maybe it’s old habits die hard; I really prefer the book form, but the web gives me a weekly fix. It would be great (for readers, anyways) if more infrequently-published series would adopt this format - Berlin, Atlas, Strangehaven are a few that only make it to paper on something like an annual basis.

It sounds pretty interesting. I’ll have to check it out once she starts posting it to the site.

I cannot tell you how stoked I am about this. In my opinion one can never have enough of the fine fine works of Colleen Doran. The lady is a genius storyteller.
