Conveniently held October 12-14, which allows for travel coordination with SPX, the International Comic Arts Festival has posted its event schedule.
For the superhero comic fan, many of the panels and papers will seem too stodgy and academic, but you may be interested in these Saturday afternoon sessions:
1:30-3:00
Comics production roundtable
Stuart Moore and Jamal Igle (Firestorm) discuss the steps of assembling a comic book for a major US publisher3:15-4:45
Comics and politics
Phil Jiminez (The Invisibles, Infinite Crisis, Otherworld) and Denny O’Neil (Batman, Green Lantern/Green Arrow) discuss the challenges of addressing political issues in superhero comics
For the rest of us, there’s a wide range of study, including sessions focused on manga, French comics, and early history of the form, as well as displays and talks covering editorial cartoonist Herb Block and the unclassifiable Jules Feiffer. All events are held at the Library of Congress, James Madison Building.

Thanks for the reminder! I’m planning to go and hadn’t booked my airline tickets yet. I can’t find any information regarding registration on the site for attendees. Does anyone know if there is such a process or is it open to all comers?

I don’t know… I’d email Marc Singer (the contact link on the site) and ask.

I don’t know the details, but one of the organizers told me yesterday that it’s open to the public — apparently anything held at the Library of Congress is, by law.
I think it’ll be fun…I’m looking forward to it, anyway. And I’m in good company at least — all the “mainstream” participants are articulate and have experience with a variety of different sides of the comics field.

Hal, ICAF is free and open to the public (as indeed it has to be). There is no registration.
Johanna, thanks for plugging us! And Stuart, may I say how happy I am to have one of Monster Force at the proceedings.

Stuart: definitely, that’s an impressive lineup. I hope it goes fabulously!
Marc: thanks for confirming!
