Well to be honest, we are fans, not journalists. While we try and do our best, at times, it's impossible to hide the fact that we are just three guys who like comics. If I wanted to be a jounalist, it wouldn't be in the comic book industry.

Thanks for listening.

You'll likely also dislike the Indie Spinner Rack interview with Dave Sim for all the same reasons.

Podcasting is a new medium. I'm sure if we looked back at the earliest days of "internet journalism," we'd find a lot of fannish interviews, too. I enjoy the youthful exhuberance of the medium for that. (The ISR guys went through Canadian phone books or something to find all the people named Dave Sim they could, in the hopes that one of them would be CEREBUS' daddy. Surely, there was an easier way to get his number, through a professional associate who's on-line or something. But, hey, that's fandom for you! It led to a great bit, if nothing else.)

And, yes, I know a lot of internet journalism is still fannish, but it tries hard to pretend not to be, if you see what I mean. The podcasters wear it on their sleeves.

I thought the same thing when I watched his brief interview on the first Spider-Man movie DVD as well as reading the TwoMorrows book. Perhaps like Ray suggests, he just needs someone to say "maybe you shouldn't post that abusive/inflamatory comment, John". But that's not likely to happen. Nor will he be leaving the Internet any time soon.

In the TwoMorrows book, he's also quite sane and considered. I think Byrne the Internet presence and Byrne the writer/artist both have the same problem- both need an editor.
