Yeah, that’s what made me finally take the plunge, the focus on comics.

If the features start including customized pages showing updates from your friends, whether their comments or comics themselves, this could really take off.

I’m only a reader, but I created an account anyways… since I never got into myspace and orkut degenerated into pure spam long ago I figured why not give this one a try instead. At least it’s about comics, so it has at least some potential of usefulness.

No, no rejection notice… and you can’t easily find out someone rejected you unless you remember that you requested them and then notice they’re no longer on your pending request screen or your friends list. So yeah, you have to be a little data-obsessed to notice.

I’ve rejected a few people, but only if I don’t know them and didn’t like their comic samples, because I do want it to be useful for networking.

I’ve been accepting anyone, though I do get annoyed by those who are obviously adding everyone. Of the first ten requests I got all but one were from people I knew (either in person or on-line) but the one I didn’t know was someone whom I’d read their work and was pleased they knew of me – until I clicked on his profile to see he had 480 friends… on the first day! Sigh…

I’ve only made a few requests, mostly people I know, but I’m requesting any retailers and media people (I suppose that’s what networking systems are for) and I’ve requested a few pros and cartoonists I like but don’t know. I haven’t been turned down yet, but one pro hasn’t added me going on three days later. Do you actaully get a rejection notice, or is the cold shoulder enough? ;-)

I personally don’t have the heart to reject any one who isn’t an actual friend or a acquaintance . And it is a little fun to get requests from people I’m a fan of. I’m actually a little surprised to realise just how many people I know in this industry.

Like J. Kevin Carrier, I get a thrill when pros exchange with me. I think it’s because now I know that at least subconsciously they have heard my name and know of my presence in the Universe.

My ID is rachelnabors. I’ve only rejected a few requests so far, mainly because I am skeptical of so-called upstart independent publishers with poorly designed web sites claiming “our comics are the second coming of the Golden Age” which all happen to be “coming out soon” and written by the same author.

Otherwise, I am a friend whore.

So far I’ve only asked people I know either personally or from forums (they’re planning on adding “Fan” as well as friend, at which point I’ll probably add a bunch of people like Dylan Meconis, whom I admire but have never conversed with). I started out accepting anyone who asked, but when I realized that some of them were just sending invites to every person who joined I decided to be a little more selective since otherwise my friends list would be predominantly people I’d never even heard of…

It’s funny how you can get emotionally caught up in this whole “friending” thing. I get a little thrill whenever a comics pro approves my request, even though I know it doesn’t actually mean they “like” me.

Like Dorian, I’ve been adding everyone who requests it, even if I don’t recognize them. I’m not sure what I’ll do if I ever get a request from someone who’s work I actively dislike. Probably deny them, and then feel guilty about it for days afterward. ;-)

Since I made my comicspace address public, I sort of felt obligated to add anyone who requested it. I figure, I have enough private and semi-private places to post, it won’t kill me to let this one be inclusive.

That being said, there is one request I declined because it was from someone associated with a comics publisher I want nothing to do with.
