Recognize Good Retailing

People complain that I don’t say enough nice, so here’s something worth supporting:
Sequentially Speaking has posted the Eisner Spirit of Comics Retailer Award nomination form. If you shop at a great comic store, let more people know about it.

Well, I can’t say I agree with the complaints, but I suppose I will when you say something I don’t agree with. I don’t have a great shop, though… I use dcbservice.com. So, I will plug them here. They are pretty great.

Ha ha. Great perspective — I’m most considered “too negative” when I’m goring someone’s favorite.
I tried DCBS for a few months, but I didn’t have the patience to get comics monthly. I was happy with the service, though.

Not to sway you in any way, but rather just to clarify DCBS does have other shipping options, for about four dollars you can get twice a month shipping. Which isn’t too bad, depending on how much you get. It suits me as it is enough time that I am not out of the loop, but my mouth is not also frothing.
There is an extra 8 dollars for weekly shipping. I can’t quite wrap my head around needing that, but I think you are still saving money versus going to the shop.

That’s true, but I like keeping shipping as cheap as possible.
The other problem I had — and here I’m talking about the publishers, not the mail order service — was ordering things and paying for them and then not having them arrive until months later because they were so late being released.

Yeah, I was looking through my unshipped items one day and noticed that the American Flagg trades had been paid for for over a year. Since I didn’t find anything about an eventual release date, I contacted DCBS and they were more than happy to give me credit.
Except for one time when they shipped my order to someone else, and I had to wait until they got my stuff back from him to send to me. I have been very pleased with DCBS because of the savings.
I don’t get to chat about the comics themselves too much, but then with my schedule I probably wouldn’t if I went to a shop every week either. (not that I’d have the time to do that either)

I was looking at DD: Father for a year … so I completely understand being peeved about unshipped items. There are more than a few others, but DD: F was in my first order so it was always there unfilled.

Well, I frequent “outspoken retailer” Brian Hibbs’ shop Comix Experience, so that should pretty much say it all (as in, “I’m happy to give them my not-so-hard-earned money on a weekly basis”).
