It’s an indicator of just how common manga has become, too.

And to think that just a few years ago that joke would have been lost of most of the population!

Johanna, Thanks for the great laugh. That is awesome. Now I have a new decoration for my work cube.

Dave Coverly grew up near me in Kalamazoo, and I’ve had the opportunity to hang out with him at library talks and art shows. He’s a really great guy, and very deserving of the accolades he gets for SPEED BUMP.
It’s interesting to talk with him about comics, as he’s a fellow cartoonist, he’s still on the fringe of the “comic book world” in a way, and can view stuff like manga from somewhat of an outsider’s perspective. We’re so immersed in it that we just assume everyone else is as well, so it’s always been fun to have conversations with fellow artists who DON’T live and breathe the mainstream comic lexicon.

I’d like to know more about him. I’ve never heard anything about Speed Bump (beyond it running in my local paper).

Here’s Dave’s website:

One other thing, and this is empirical information that can be backed up by Jane, my wife: Dave Coverly is an incredibly handsome man. Really, he’s a good looking dude, way too pretty to be a cartoonist, but there you go…

Hehe… never heard of Speed bump I normally get the Metro. It was funny for a one shot picture cartoon. Tell him to keep it up and when he has enough cartoons to publish a book like me some day.
