RIP Sake

Long-time readers of this blog will remember my post about the death of one of my parents’ dogs. They had two Japanese chin named Sushi (the black-and-white girl) and Sake (the brown-and-white boy). Sushi passed away in November 2005 of an enlarged heart, which caused her breathing problems.

This morning, Sake was put to sleep. He’d been behaving a little oddly since Christmas, not quite himself, but this past weekend, he stopped eating, even when hand-fed treats. He was taken to the vet on Monday, where they immediately detected a large tumor on his spleen. He was scheduled for surgery this morning, but when they opened him up, they found it had spread throughout his kidneys and other organs.

I’m very glad both of them went quickly once their quality of life was greatly decreased, but it’s never easy to lose a member of your family. I’ll miss the little guy. He was always so loving and patient.

I’m a cat person, but I love dogs too. My deepest condolences on your loss.
