Right across the river from the city is the Comfort Inn Long Island City. It's one subway stop out of Manhattan (it's in Queens), and only 6 subway stops away from 34th Street--where you can take the bus or a cab to the Javitz. Our families stayed in this hotel (which is half a block from the subway) during our wedding, and everyone said it was clean and comfortable, and that the bathrooms were really nice. It's also half the price of Manhattan hotels!!

I realize that the Javitz is on the west side of the city, but honestly, the CILIC really is about as convenient as anything else, and I'd recommend it to anyone.

Compulsion. Like any writer, I can't NOT do it.

And I do make a little money, not enough for a career, certainly, but a little compensation.

No, you're not the only person avoiding NYCC -- the pay for badge thing seems to have kept some away, and others plan to visit when everyone else isn't trying to at the same time.

Drat the early send.

I'd love to, but there's plenty of girls making comics for themselves, and M (I can't bring myself to say it), is not the last word on getting female readers.

Kind of a pity about your panel timing. That seems a good panel for when the general attendants are in. I hope someone records it. I know what moves me to blog (obsessive documentation coupled with writing more when I have an audience), but I'd be very interested in what moves you, Chris and Heidi to keep at it day after day.
(Okay, Heidi gets an income, but what about you and Chris?)

Lastly, am I the only pro NOT going to NYCC? (Not that I mind--it looks like a madhouse in the making.)

Wow, a female readers panel with actual females! Huzzah!
Now, I'd love for someone to quiz Berger on the logic of a girl's line with only two female creators, and neither professionals from within comics.

But I'm mean.

I'm not sure if I'll be able to get into the trade portion this year since I'm kind of freelancing it, but if I do, I'll definitely come check out the panel. Either way, hopefully we'll run into each other at some point while you're here.

Johanna, sorry to hear I can't attend your panel. I wonder how they determine which panels should be trade only and which should be open to the public?
