You must be waiting for that new Wonder Woman DVD to come out. It sounds pretty good, plus if sales do well there might be a live action WW movie to follow (WB is testing the waters).

They Showcases and Essentials work well for me because I work late evenings and so don’t get home until 1 a.m. or later in the morning. So reading a chapter or issue a night when I get home to unwind is enjoyable.

Anyone know anything about the Showcase Atom one? I don’t really know much about the character, but creators seem to like him as he’s always getting put on the JLA and other team books.

SHOWCASES and MARVEL ESSENTIALS are perfect bathroom reading, Johanna! Stick them in there, read one or two per visit, and you never end up reading too much at one sitting.

So they’re releasing contents info for stuff coming out in the summer, but not for something coming out this spring… [dumbfounded]. Oh well, I guess I won’t pre-order it then.

Wow those are some great books coming out. I found the Batman Encyclopedia at a flea market years back and really enjoyed it so the WW one sounds nifty too.

The Cooke collection should be really good to read too.

My 11 year old just let out a frenzied scream of joy when I informed him of the Jimmy Olsen book. Of all the characters superhero comics provide, his favorite of all time is Jimmy Olsen, which I just find comforting in this day and age . . .

It would be interesting to see sales figures on the last volume, which began entering what I think of as “modern era”. When you’re competing with easier-to-find back issue sales, then I’m sure the financial concerns change.

As thrilled as I am by stuff like the Cooke collection and the weird Jimmy Olsen book and the Atom Showcase, I can’t help but cringe at the fact that it’s been FOUR YEARS since the last Legion Archive.

the biggest problem that I have with the Showcase is that hundreds of pages of stories that were originally intended to be 5-8 page backups gets very tedious very quickly. I know, I know, parcel the reading out — but that’s not the way I’m used to reading collections of comics. there’s definitely solid craft in these DC backup stories, but I’m not sure that there’s all that much art.

Ed, the only time I’ve read Dr. Fate was when deMatteis had two people sharing the identity/body, so that’s certainly a chance for me to learn more about the classic character.

Caleb, but the hardcover was so pretty! I need to reread that now that I’ve twigged to Cooke’s appeal.

I’m really glad to see them reprinting those Fleischer Encyclopedias. I could never find the Wonder Woman volume back in the day, and my Superman and Batman volumes are pretty worn out (plus 11-year-old me used the Batman volume as a coloring book…).

I think it is the first time any SOLO work has made it to trade. I’d like to see the Allred stuff and Pope stuff into comprehensive Allred and Pope omnibuses, but I’m not sure if that’ll ever happen.

This both excites and infuriates me…I KNEW I shouldn’t have bought that SELINA’S BIG SCORE hardcover!
