I never read the original comic - but I like those creators a lot, I love the Maverick tv show, and I like what that article sounds like. I’ll keep an eye out for this…

What, no mention yet of Nick Cardy?? You really can’t talk about Bat Lash without acknowledging his penciller: one of THE great silver age artists. Severin is great, I agree — but Cardy is still doing fabulous work as well. Can we at least get him to do a cover or two, DC? Please?

Anyone who has not read the originals should really try and seek them out. You won’t be disappointed.

I’ve only seen 2 or 3 of the original issues; I would dearly love to get my hands on a collection. And with Aragones providing continuity with the original and Severin on the art, I’m already looking forward to the new series.

I agree with Johnny B that if all this new series does is get the original collected, it’s worth every dime. I mean c’mon, it’s only 8 issues, so it’s one volume, and it would be a revelation to people who haven’t had the luxury to read those originals. Nobody has really had a grasp on Bat since O’Neill and Aragones. And if this (and the collection) are a success, maybe we’d even see a collection of the Son of Tomahawk series that was almost as good as Bat Lash.

Oh, fabulous idea! I’m lucky, I just put in a request to KC and now I’m reading the originals, but everyone should have a chance to enjoy these — they’re a hoot! Especially when he keeps asking people to hold his flower while he beats up people.

Both Sergio Aragones and cowriter Dennis O’Neil have been on record in the past as saying that Bat was inspired by Maverick, which was still in the public consciousness back in 1968.

And I hope this series prompts DC to collect the original series, which was outstanding.

Had heard of the character, but no mention had ever made me care. Then I read his appearance in the recent Jonah Hex series. The comparison to Maverick was immediate. People should mention something like that! :-) You say “western” and the default assumption is going to be gunslinger.
