Dark Horse will be offering two massive collections in the March Previews catalog. I thought this was the launch of their Omnibus line, but it turns out I wasn’t paying attention, and this is only the first month where one interests me.
That’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer Omnibus Volume 1, 320 pages of the comic series for $25, due in July. They’re reprinting the stories in order by content, not when they were published, which means the volume contains The Origin, Viva Las Buffy, and Slayer, Interrupted. The last two storylines were done later in the run when they were trying to provide something the TV series couldn’t, so they started doing flashbacks and stories that filled in continuity. I enjoyed them for that reason, finding out more about the past and how Buffy became who she was.
Oddly, though, it’s only 6″ x 9″, which makes it digest-sized (more manga-like?). For that reason, I might stick with my previous set of collections — I’ll have to see what the final product looks like when it arrives. A full and complete reprint series is a great idea, though, since there are several Buffy comics from the previous run that still haven’t been collected.
