Lolcats Don’t Translate

I was trying to explain lolcats to my husband recently, inspired by Jennifer deGuzman’s hilarious comic lolcat thread. (I can’t believe the look on the Jhonenz cat.)
He didn’t get it, but I think that’s because he doesn’t spend much time online. I tried comparing them to the Chick-Fil-A cows, but he said the cats were even worse spellers. And he’s never seen the “I in your ____, _____ing your ______” meme.
But I had to show him this particular one (last image in the post), mainly to get back at him for making me listen to the Marie Provost song by Nick Lowe. Ick ick ick.

Hmm, I don’t get it either, just seems weird!
I loved the Lowe song he sent me on a disc once though!:)

You know, I never listened that closely to the Lowe song. I’ve enjoyed it, but I didn’t listen to the lyrics at all. Thanks for the link. Now I get it.

“She was a winner/who became a doggie’s dinner…”
Sometimes taste must be sacrificed for art.

As OCD as I am, it’s the urge to systematize these things (not just lolcats) that I find oddly interesting (interestingly odd?).

I never got lolcats either… but this essay explains it very clearly if your husband’s interested:
