KISS Yaoi?

Ye Olde Comic Booke Blogge has the KISS yaoi manga press release.

Update: This has been revealed as a hoax. And based on Jake at YOCBB’s reaction in his comments (“just because its false, I don’t see any reason this rumor shouldn’t run wild across the internet”), I’m guessing he knew it, perhaps even initiated it. Former post follows.

It’s called Love Gun (snicker) and features this cover:

I’m reading this unbelievably goofy description, which recasts “Gene the Demon and Paul the Starchild” as young boys in love, and wondering how this ever got approved when I hit Jake’s summation: “Is it safe to assume Gene Simmons, et. al. weren’t adequately informed of the definition of yaoi?”

  3. I was a die-hard KISS fan in my youth. This manga will certainly cause me to re-interpret many of my old favorite songs now. I would get this manga–if the characters stayed in make-up the entire time like the cover shows.

  5. Hey, that’s Shinji and Kaworu from Neon Genesis Evangelion! I think somone has been had. Besides Shinji.

    That image is actually pretty popular amoungst Eva yaoi fans (er, so I’ve heard)- here’s an example of the non-photoshoped version.

    Still, KISS yaoi sounds like a fun idea…hope when the real art comes out it’s got more of a rocked out sensibility.

  6. It’s a hoax. I just did a Google image search, and turned up the original, unaltered picture of Kaoru and Shinji from Neon Genesis Evangelion.

  7. Hah! My favorite part is that they actually poached the BLU copy for “Wild Rock” as part of the story description. :-)

  10. C’mon now – any anime/manga fan should recognize that picture as a photoshop of some fanart of Shinji and Kaworu from Evangelion ;)

  11. Yes, it was a pretty obvious hoax. Our fear was that manga fans would catch it immediately, but we hoped it might take root among the hard core KISS fans before it was snuffed out.

  12. I thought it was very well done, Jake, and enjoyed it immensely. Though the number of times I’m seeing it pop up as real news in my google alerts is starting to worry me. Well done indeed! ;D
