Viz Novels Out This Year
Posted in Manga News on August 12, 2007 by JohannaViz is bringing out a couple of interesting sounding novels this year.

Out this month is Miyuki Miyabe’s Brave Story. Don’t confuse it with Tokyopop’s manga version — this is an 800-some page novel that also inspired a video game and an animated movie. It’s described as a “big sprawling slab of fantasy” and “a powerful story about a ten year-old boy who has to enter a fantasy world in order to save his mother from a cruel fate.”

In November is scheduled Dragon Sword and Wind Child by Noriko Ogiwara. It was published here a decade ago, but this is a new version with a new translation (by the original translator). It’s about a 15-year-old girl caught in a battle between the forces of the God of Light and the Goddess of Darkness.
Oh, that I had time to read books, but there’s still so much manga to catch up on!

I saw the Brave Story one today in the book store. I thought it looked like children’s lit., until I read the jacket that mentioned his father abadoning him and his mom attempts to commit suicide. (which is what he quests to change)
Very much not what I expected, I may see if my library can get me a copy.
Oh and you should try to make time for prose writing again. It really excercises a different muscle and can help balance you out a bit.
