Oh, THAT Explains the Canceled Showcases

I was disappointed to hear that DC has canceled these Showcase Presents titles, due from now through November.
- CAPTAIN CARROT VOL. 1
- THE GREAT DISASTER FEATURING THE ATOMIC KNIGHTS AND HERCULES VOL. 1
- THE SUICIDE SQUAD VOL. 1
- SECRET SOCIETY OF SUPER VILLAINS VOL. 1
- JONAH HEX VOL. 2
Popular opinion, as shown by Dave Carter, has it that it’s due to the question of reprint rights and DC being required to renegotiate with the creators.
The company press release said “These titles will be resolicited at a later date.” I hope that does actually happen.

I’m sorry to hear about their cancellation; I was looking forward to the Showcase volume for Capt. Carrot (moreso than the upcoming miniseries, given it’s a follow-up to the “Teen Titans” Alley-Kat-Abra-as-some-speciesist-killer junk, though I’ll wait until others comment on it to see if this is reversed somehow before I’m willing to buy it…).

I was looking forward to these. Particularly Captain Carrot and Suicide Squad.

Yeah, it looks as though DC might have thought that the wackier, more interesting (in my opinion) material wasn’t worth renegotiating the rights. Or perhaps some of the creators felt that the original agreement was still fair, and DC disagreed. We don’t know. But I do hope we still see these books in the future.

I thought you posted the Greenberger quote when he originally made it but I ain’t finding it so maybe I’m mistaken.
I wonder if the solicitations were tests to see if the material would be profitable even with the flat rates.
