Anyone see Sunday’s Funky Winkerbean? It probably only makes sense if you know that one of the lead female characters is dying of cancer. Here it is:
So, you think John Byrne is helping out artist Tom Batiuk again? I like the way the characters are instantly recognizable, yet every trademarkable element has been removed (pointy crown instead of bat-ears, diamonds instead of stars).
With all the discussion fans can get into, it was nice to be reminded both of powerful, symbolic female characters (without any baggage along with it) and that superheroes could be purely inspirational. (Strip via Seattle Post-Intelligencer.)

I hadn’t seen this; it’s really nice. Thanks for pointing it out.

Those heroines sure look like Byrne’s work to me. Neat.

Yes. That’s Byrne. He’s helped out on 4 (I think) strips recently.

Roger, where any of the others as suited to Byrne’s history as this one?

I think so. Here are links to a couple on the Houston Chronicle web site. (sorry. I don’t know how to embed these.)

Not to be nit-picky but would it had read better if he said “super” women rather than “wonder” since only one of them is Wonder Woman. Super would encompass all three and…
Oh hell…. I’m just being anal here…………
It nice though.

At least you recognize when you’re being that way. :)
