Stupid Yaoi Joke
Posted in Manga News on November 11, 2007 by Johanna
I received a review copy of Saihoshi, but I passed on it, since it’s medieval fantasy yaoi. Both of those genres have more often than not disappointed me in the past.
So why am I mentioning it? Because I was flabbergasted to note the lead character’s name: Prince Anel. So much for subtlety — there’s nothing circumspect about that moniker.
You can see a short preview at the Yaoi Press site, if you’re interested.

Marvel Comics have a gay muteen called Anole.
I’m kind of surprised that there hasn’t been more made of that.

An Anole is a type of lizard, genius.

LOL That manga looks pretty damn generic and horridly uninteresting. But Anel is a pretty common Spanish name, and Kosen being from Spain and all…
Maybe a gay guy named Dick is funny for about 2 seconds, but it really isn’t that interesting.

Analnymous: I have Google. I know what Anole refers to.
It doesn’t make it any less icky – especially when they went out of their way to rename Asgardian “just in case” somebody called him “Ass Guardian.”
“Genius.” You chump.

Common Spanish name? Neat, I learned something! So it was worth it after all. :)

I think they did it because yaoi fangirls have a big sense of humor when it comes donw to their fandom. We invented the term surprise buttsecks after all.

Actually in spanish the A in Anel would be read like the A in Audio and the stress would be in the e, instead of the first letter. So it’s only funny in english ^_^; I guess
