B&B lost me somewhere around the time Lobo showed up, but recommendations by others brought me back with issue 7. I really felt issue 8 was the closest to Morrison's DP (Rita's permanent smile, in particular).

What made the return of Bucky so great? Marvel was too busy with other big events to make a big cross-platform (buy these myriad comic books) deal out of the return. Though I disagree with KC, I genuinely could see this played out for another year (how much has Brubaker delved into Nick Fury with this comic, that's one deep well that has been barely tapped) without a resolution. I'm crazy like that.

Yeah, that's the problem with over-emphasizing universes... you may end up cannibalizing sales of your own titles that don't fit the event-driven model. It's DC's best superhero book now, though.

Great column! I was not aware that actors got paid for their likenesses.

I also wonder if the reason B&B doesn't sell better is because it has the image of being a "non-important" book? Since with rotating characters some readers may feel that nothing done with the characters or story will reflect on other titles?

Which to me is a plus for the book. Yet with Didio's repeated emphasis on the DCU as a whole being more important than its individual parts. I can see how this book that at least from the outside seems to go against that, could lead readers to skip it.
