You know, I see this review as fairly closed minded. First off, one should never compare an anime to a manga, simply because they are made by different people.

I can understand where you come from with the plot, but the fact that you didn't even finish the series means that your review is invalid.

This is by far the best anime series out there. I also think it is one of the best written series dealing with strategy and skill. Like a Sherlock Holmes or evil master minds. The battle between Light and L is amazing.

I felt as though there where several directions that could have been taken with Death Note. However, while I don't agree the plot line that the author chose was the best, I still found it enjoyable.

As to those debating how much life Misa had left, remember, Rem (the shinigami) killed herself in an attempt to save Misa, meaning that Rem's remaining lifespan would be transferred to Misa.

That means, instead of the 10 odd years being discussed, it's more likely to be in the 100's

No

I didn't feel as if there were any major loose ends. Besides the fact Misora's death was explained, I couldn't really see anything wrong with it.

Loose ends are all right too, because you can open them up for great debates and interpretations. (And fanfiction XD)

I've never been the harshest critic, though.

I didnt thought about so many bad comments about this Manga.
Actually I was shocked!
I absolutely loved this one, I was on Raitos side till the end.
So thats the thing why I absolutely hated the last Episode of the Animee, they absolutely overdidd it with his going insane...
But you guys are right about Ls death...
cantt stand Near, nor Mello, but with L beeing the oppenent, the whole thing would ave become realy boreing...

i was kinda disapointed
cuz its not even in the middle of the series and L is already dead
i know that i had to happen
for near and mello to come in..
and i would think that since
misa was famous and everything
she would have a tensy-wensy bit
of some common sense but it still rocks

I think that Death Note is a great manga series, it is probably one of the few that i actually enjoy as it has a slightly evil twist to it. The characters are so unique, but i do agree about the few lose ends just left in some of the volumes of this series.

However overall i think it is a very good series, and is actually my favourite.

I have to say when watching the films, its disappointing how much they changed!

I think that Near and Mello should have been in it also.

Hmmm, a litte bit different with the origin manga,, but I am still able 2 catch the point...

By watch the film, I can catch the point easier because when i read the real manga, I had 2 think twice even 4times 2 get the point (hohoho)..But I have 2 recognize the real manga have their own charisma...

But I still luv L wherever he was...Hohoho...

PS: I wish I had thid book someday

Although I do love the Death Note series, I have to admit that after volumne seven, although I grew attached to a couple of the new characters introduced, the story line was pointless. The main plot was supposed to be a battle between Kira and L, deciding which was justice for the reader, really. After L died, it wasn't even a fight between Light and L's sucessors. Near finds out who Kira is very quickly, and the game turns into a more physical battle. I suppose they tried to turn it into a mind game by showing Near's thoughts on the matter, but I had to read them three times before understanding them fully...
Plus, Light made that huge tactical error (especially when it got dangerous), destroying his own purpose: he had no heir to the title of Kira. Mikami was much too involved to be safe. After he was gone, everything was back to the way it was before him. Eliminates his purpose. Some super-genius he was.
Still, I wasn't really disappointed by the series. It's probably one of the best. (And my dad will still talk about how L and Naomi aren't dead...)

Never having read the manga itself, I can't really judge it, but the anime is definitely worth watching. I've also heard other people who've said the anime far outstrips the manga, because the added elements of music and animation creates much more suspense. Naomi's death was really amazing in the anime - the fear expressed in her eyes when Light revealed himself to be Kira was horrifying.

(also, to answer a question about Misa's lifespan - Jealous died when he lengthened her life, so the rest of HIS lifespan was added onto Misa's as well - and his could've well been 100 yrs or so)

Never having read the manga itself, I can’t really judge it, but the anime is definitely worth watching. I’ve also heard other people who’ve said the anime far outstrips the manga, because the added elements of music and animation creates much more suspense. Naomi’s death was really amazing in the anime – the fear expressed in her eyes when Light revealed himself to be Kira was horrifying.

(also, to answer a question about Misa’s lifespan – Jealous died when he lengthened her life, so the rest of HIS lifespan was added onto Misa’s as well – and his could’ve well been 100 yrs or so)
