“We have to eat the 60s and digest it through the bodies of today.”
— A choreographer from Across the Universe talking about how movement has changed from then to now and how difficult it is to recreate an authentic look.

From later in the same featurette, “It was 1965. He hadn’t slept with you yet. You dance completely differently after you’ve had sex.”

On another topic, it occurs to me that if you respect someone’s opinions and experience on almost every subject, and you run across their comments on a particular topic and think that they’re completely demented, maybe you should think twice about writing them off. Maybe your general respect for them should make you try to understand their logic and perspective. After all, while it’s possible for someone to have a bee in their bonnet about some bugaboo, it’s also possible that the thought processes that cause you to respect them were still in operation.

“i’m gonna be the one to break all of those rules.
I think those people are fools.
Scandal’s nothing new.
What good is the truth if we never use it?”
— “Trust Me”, Voice of the Beehive

good thoughts — great pullquotes — AND you use lyrics from Voice of the Beehive. Even without the fact that you’re responding to what I thought was one of the visually most stunning films in a long time, this post hits on all cylinders.

I did notice that you didn’t actually indicate if you liked the movie or not. My family hasn’t gotten this yet (we saw it in the theatre), but I’m looking forward to the extra features. I don’t normally get much out of those, but this is so obviously well-thought out as a film that I want to know more about the film-makers and their process.

Oh, I talked about liking the movie in the link (which goes to a post I made after I saw it in the theater). I liked it even more on DVD seeing how they worked to make it happen.

That movie is the only time I actually liked hearing Come Together thanks to the staging and Joe Cocker’s astounding performance. Most of the time I detest and can barely tolerate it.
