Rivkah,

Thanks for the kind words. I'm trying hard to write good reviews. Who knew an MDiv would pay off in writing a manga review?

Thanks Ed! I may have to check this out; for those who have a passion for religious history and all the different inflections present in such a complex and cultural text, it's always fascinating to read new versions, though, unfortunately, can't say I've been very impressed with many of the so-called "modern" versions which typically take an already existing English text and "update" it. Hence the skepticism. However, the fact that it sounds like the writers/translators of the version have the ability to laugh about it, makes it sound promising. There's a lot of wierd humor in the bible that often gets lost in cultural translation.

And good to see a reviewer who knows his stuff, too. ;) Always a finicky thing to review religious texts because so much of it is debatable.

Rivkah,

Since Lot is excised from the book, the story of Sodom & Gomorrah is too. I know the story has gotten a lot of mileage in past, but truthfully, it's a minor episode in the Abraham saga. You don't miss it, or at least I didn't.

I keep trying to figure out how someone would do an illustrated version of Leviticus and the census chapters in Numbers. :)

What, no Leviticus? ;)

I'm curious how they handled the story of Sodom and Gomorrah. A lot of people treat it like it was some huge lesson on homosexuality when it was really about hospitality, adultery, greed, and idol worship.
