New York Con Not Starting Well

As I prepare for my first day of convention-going, things are mostly not going well. The convention hotel, the New Yorker (Ramada), is a joke. We had to move rooms because their brand new climate system doesn’t have the air conditioning hooked up yet (who sells hotel rooms without AC?), so they’re depending on old window units. The first room had put the beds in front of the unit, so it was impossible to access.

This morning, the promised convention shuttles weren’t running. The doorman said “oh, the driver just didn’t show up.”

Although I preregistered months ago and had a confirmation, there were no press credentials waiting for me. I thought they worked out all of these glitches last year?

I’m still looking forward to the show, mostly for catching up with old friends and finding out about new publications.
