Johanna says:

"Most US readers will recognize Sutra as vaguely sex-related because of the Kama Sutra title; Kama doesn’t have the same connotations."

Yeah, that reminds me of a Ranma 1/2 fanfic I saw once involving phone sex. The author titled it "Phoneography" as if (a) he didn't know that "pornography" is abbreviated "porn" instead of "ography" and (b) had never heard of phonographs. I wonder if he also thought geography meant having sex on a map.

I also wonder if it isn't because kama and manga sound more similiar than manga and sutra. Plus it has the added bonus of putting the buzzword 'manga' at the beginning of the title.

Ed Sizemore wrote:
"My main concern/complaint is that the series is becoming less a sex education manual and more a manga about male fantasies of sex and marriage. The first volume of the series definitely had a male slant to the presentation, but I felt the bias was slight enough for females to still enjoy the book and find it useful. However, two changes in this volume made the male bias very blatant and may have so changed the voice of the series that I worry if female readers will find the manga worth reading."

Maybe it's supposed to be a manual for mken and housewives who can't afford to not keep their men?

Meanwhile, I'm wondering why they called it Manga Sutra instead of Kama Manga. Sutra refers to being a text, not to having a sexual subject.

I agree, Ed, I found this volume more frustrating than the previous, mainly because they pay lip service to Makoto wanting to please Yura, but it's quickly forgotten in stories better serving his interests.

When he suffers from impotence, she immediately learns about the magic powers of sexy lingerie and is taught to give head. He's solicitous of her, but he gets what he wants while she's still waiting.

The reason I'm still willing to continue is that they're both so good-hearted. That's fun to read about, especially when put in conflict with the brazenness of everyone around them.
