Bill, I think it’s understandable that numbers will drop off as newness wears off. The same thing happens in print comics, with a gradual attrition over time.

Tom, the webcomics you mention building an audience over time did it with continued posting, not 8 screens and we’re done.

And unless I miss my guess the only thing that DC and Zuda really share are a lunch room. Maybe the eventual publication of a single book will change that.

While I am further along with my development of my audience, I have seen better results than Zuda has without the publishing arm of Time Warner helping me along and in that, I suppose that I am not alone.

I don’t think it is totally fair to jump to conclusions when you have strips like BAYOU and HIGH MOON and CROOKED MAN, which all made a pretty strong showing.

I also think as with any webcomic, it takes time to cultiavate an audience. PVP has been at it for over 10 years and was certainly not an overnight sucess. The same thing could be said for PENNY ARCADE. Zuda has had comics on their site since what October? … and I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt – just as I did with some of their titles. It’s not like I have to spend money on them to read them. They are free, which is much better than dropping money on a Wildstorm or Vertigo book with earlier than expected expiration dates.

I understand everyone is on this anti-dc kick (overall and with zuda), but man … some of the stuff Zuda is doing is really remarkable.

It did not occur to me that I could keep ‘voting’ for something six months after the end of the contest.

Page views are a different calculation than readers. Using Project Wonderful numbers from today so far, my webcomic SideChicks has had 5K page views from 1K readers.

I’m not sure that it is negative to say that the ZUDA experiment has not been anything like a wild success.

You’ve got your math wrong. HIGH MOON has cultiavated 100,000 readers over the coruse of 6 months. Something in a thread like this one mentioned this last time too. What is with you negative nellies?

Even for a freelancer like me, I can get a grasp on that math. Things are going in the wrong direction in a hurry. Why can’t Zuda give away material better than that?

Is the contest a little insulting? Is flash that annoying?

As we are in the middle of a generational change where people are increasingly comfortable getting digital content, this has to be viewed at this stage as a bust.

ZUDA needs a 2.0 and quick.

Actually, I seem to recall you mentioning your enjoyment of THE CROOKED MAN back in December, in fact, I think you said “the look of Crooked Man is astounding! And I like the historical adventure, too. Easily the best of [December's] lot, in my opinion.
