Dang, I'm 4 volumes behind on the series. I loved the series but it got impossible to find the series in stores.

I hope it does come back through the Kodansha publisher who can get it in the actual stores.

Sad to hear that Kindaichi has been canned by Tokyopop, but I can't say I'm totally surprised. I wasn't aware it was a Kodansha title; my lack of surprise comes from my understanding that it wasn't selling very well at all - I kinda stopped buying it myself when they apparently shifted to publishing just one volume a year (or perhaps it was every six months).

I have to agree with the first comment that it's a great manga to have in a library. As well as the potential crossover appeal, there's also the fact that most volumes are 'done in one' affairs, so it doesn't matter too much which volumes are available (my own library authority, for example, has complete random volumes of One Piece with gaps aplenty). Case Closed (Detective Conan) may also have crossover appeal like Kindaichi, but I hate the way the storylines spread across volumes (at least the ones I've read) so they start with the end of the previous story, and you have to read the next volume to find out the end of the new story.

I'm really sorry to hear about Kat & Mouse. It was a great series. I wish Tokyopop had the decency to give back the rights to the creators. I think this book would fit well within the Scholastic lineup.

I know, they're so unlike much else out there, but they're immediately approachable... maybe the problem was that the right audience didn't know they were available?

Oh, dammit! I just started buying Kindaichi, four per month until caught up to new releases (I'm a buyer for a public library). Thanks for the heads-up about other possible outlets for these.

We have a group of kids with overlapping manga and CSI/Law&Order/forensic science/procedural mystery interests and I think they'll be wildly popular - I hope they get picked up quickly.
