I agree, Urushibara does any amazing job of making the mushi seems just another aspect of the natural world and that is very significant to the series.

I’m trying to think if I can think of any western mythology that meshes with Mushishi, but I can’t think of one. Though I phrase it a bit differently, I also like the way in which the books naturalize the mushi. It allows people to disbelieve in them, which I think is part of what makes it work.

Now I just have to wait until after I move to read the rest of this series. *cries*
