At io9, there’s an interview with Javier Grillo-Marxuach, creator of The Middleman, in which he explains how the show works so well because they’re unashamed of their comic book origin. Key quotes:
But if [The Middleman] is anti-anything, it’s anti- the idea that heroism is ultimately tragic, which I think is the dominating trope of most scifi shows that I watch…
[On why it fits on ABC Family:] It has a female protagonist who speaks to their core demographic and [shows] how Wendy is creating a family out of her friends.
I believe in tolerance, and that doesn’t mean accepting everything at face value… What I imagine is that there’s a rational explanation for everything, we just don’t know it yet.
It’s a fabulous show, and it needs more viewers! You can jump on any time with any epsiode, Monday nights, check local listings. And watch this space next week.

I keep meaning to check this out. I’ll have to leave myself a note to Tivo it. We need something new to watch now that Doctor Who is finished.

Oh, please do. It’s really good and fun. I’m on a mission to convert as many people as I can, one at a time if necessary.
