WALL-E Video Clips
November 12, 2008

KC’s preparing a review of WALL-E for next week, when it’s available on DVD, but in the meantime, here are some clips to remind you of how wonderful the movie was. (Gee, I wonder if the review’s going to be favorable?)

First, the trailer, in case you missed it or need a reminder. I’m still astounded a non-speaking box with binoculars for eyes can have so much personality.

Digression: I think the Pixar logo, with the animated desk lamp, is one of the best ever, because it so perfectly combines allusions to technology (computer animation), movement, and artistry (the light to study by).

Next, here’s some character work, just to show how adorable this robot is, even with no background and just one prop.

You may want to rewatch that after this next one, part of the bonus features, in which the animators discuss the frustrating problem of elbows. I can see a Disney company requiring a character to be able to wave, a key test for future merchandising.

Who knew that such details had to be carefully considered, and that such a small joint could make such a difference? Last, here’s a short clip about the sound effects, in which a stretched slinky makes the noise of a laser gun. Plus, science!

This is just a huge mislead for what will turn out to be a vicious critique slamming the movie, isn’t it? :)
