KC,

Great review of a great film. The genius of Pixar can be summed up in two observations. First, they make you believe a trash compacting robot is at heart an incurable romantic and you totally buy it. Second, they make a cockroach a lovable pet. What further proof does anyone need?

The closing credit animation is meant to be an homage to Miyazaki's film Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. The art style is similar to a tapestry featured in the Nausicaa film.

Love this review. WALL*E is one of the best movies I've ever seen. Period. And I agree with Mike - where is this sad island of people who dislike Pixar films and how can we save them? Tragic.

Even the worst PIXAR films (for me, Monsters Inc and Cars, for you, maybe something else) are better than most pictures, live-action or animated.

I saw Wall*E twice this summer, then waited for the DVD.

Not only is this one of Pixar's best films, it may be the first time they'll receive a nomination for Best Picture. Not Best Animated Picture, but for best movie of any kind. One can only hope.

People somewhere are tearing Pixar films down? Really? Where did you find these sad and misinformed people and what were you doing in that place to begin with? Honestly, that statement boggles my mind almost as much as the fact that there are 24 percent or so who still think George W. Bush is doing a good job. Who are these people?

Pixar has made so many mind-numbingly good movies that really the only criteria to determine their quality is to compare them to each other. "Cars," for example, wasn't as good as "The Incredibles," but it was still one of the two or three best movies overall to be released in 2006; where does "Ratatouille" fall between "Toy Story 2" and "Finding Nemo"--and how does "Monsters, Inc." figure into the equation?

Having said that, they're reportedly moving toward the inclusion of a lot more live action in future films, particularly with an adaptation of "John Carter Of Mars," so we'll see if they can maintain the streak when they no longer have control over every element (ooo, pesky actors, scaaaary), but so far, you'd have to get pretty picayune to find anything to gripe about in anything they've done.

Oh, and what you said about "Wall*E." ;-)

"Keep in mind that no actual cameras are actually used in the making of Pixar films."

Well, except for this one, of course. But it was only in thinking about that response that I suddenly thought that perhaps the little burst of Fred Willard on TV (he was on last night's Worst Week and is slated for this week's Pushing Daisies) might be linked to the release of Wall-E.
