		<description>I suspect you&#039;re right, that those things will be followed up on in future. It&#039;s an unfortunate side-effect of single-creator graphic novels that they can&#039;t come out more quickly than once a year at best. Makes me jealous of the late-coming reader, who has several volumes available all at once.</description>

		<description>I think all the things that you point to as &quot;flaws&quot; I interpreted as foreshadowing and/or character-development.  I agree that a tween reader would find the first twelve to fifteen pages jarring and scary, but not much more than -- say -- the burning of the forest in the first volume of &lt;i&gt;Elfquest&lt;/i&gt;, which is actually the book that turned me on to comics (at about that age!).

The sinister and cutthroat nature of the Amulet also rang the One-Ring alarm bells for me, too -- but rather than judging the writer, I find myself judging the Amulet&#039;s character (hugely powerful and not trustworthy).  I await volume 2 eagerly to see if my sense is correct.</description>
