My favorite piece of advice in the whole book is as follows: “Be interesting. Nobody cares about you. I doubt a comic book about the recent breakup of your romantic relationship would be very entertaining. You know who’s going to read that? Lonely people! You know what’s wrong with lonely people? No word of mouth!”

Perhaps one of the few “How to (Comics!)” books I would actually buy. Too many comic creators take the “how to” part too literally, creating instead a step-by-step instruction manual for drawing (or writing), delving purely into the technical side of an industry that requires just as much heart. Well thought out advice, tips, and insight into what it takes to create amazing comics is like gold in this industry. Kyle Baker and Scout McCloud are two of few who can make their how-to books shine.
