Why did the Archies comeback? There is a kool girl group called the Veronicas already and The american idol guy is Archie. Mr. Whipple is next.

I got the Archies CD and love it. Ron Dante sounds as good as ever and the girls voices are great also. This is the kind of music that needs to get out more. Great harmonies and pop sound along with lead guitar you dont hear that much of anymore. Nice music for every generation. Love it

Of course it helped that I was key target age in 1983 when they debuted on the cartoon. (they and the Chipmunks had a big music battle over the right to the name “The Chipmunks”)

Dani: Thanks for the correction! It’s actually very cool that it’s an original song! And the ‘Munks version of Livin’ on a Prayer always makes me smile. It’s a classic song! It just seems odd to me that they decided to downplay such a major part of the song!

I got the album (Undeniable) and its actually pretty decent. I’m surprised to hear you say u don’t like their cover of Livin on a Prayer. I love it! And a polite correction, the track “Thank You” was not sung by boyz II men, it is an original Chipmunks song. Great article/blog though! Very informative and nice to see another munks fan out there who knows about their old stuff!

I realized, listening to KC listen to these albums, that there’s a place for bubble gum, for music that kids can listen to without inappropriate subject matter/lyrics. Unfortunately, some of those chosen for the Chipmunks cross that line.

I need to check out both of these. Hah, I still remember when you first talked about them KC. I went “How can comic book characters sing?”

I loved the ‘Munks as a kid, though oddly the only album of theirs I remember was a country one. With Simon trying to grammatically correct Aarron Tippen’s “There Ain’t Nothing Wrong With The Radio”, Alvin and Alan Jackson fighting about “Don’t Rock the Jukebox” and Brittni and Tammy Wynette singing “Stand By Your Man”.

Ed: There is a Alvin vs. Dave track on the CD, called “Ho Ho Ho.” It is not good and not funny. I’m all for the “Munks doing “Ana Ng!”

Bill: You’d be surprised at what’s been available on CD regarding the ‘Munks. Problem is that they go out of print almost immediately. Snoop around sites that sell used stuff, like eBay, Amazon Shops or Half.com.

Mildred: Oh, I’m a big fan of girl pop and like B&V singing just fine. It’s just that I’m also a big fan of Ron Dante because he’s got one of those timeless voices. For a lot of people, he IS the voice of Archie Andrews.

The Archies Christmas CD is Awesome and sounds much better with the young people taking lead. Who wants to hear an Archies band from the old folks home? afterall they are everyday teens. Great album. Good clean fun.

I had but one Chipmunks cassette growing up – The Chipmunks Go Hollywood – but I played the hell out of it, to the point where I can’t hear the Chariots of Fire theme without thinking of the boys’ attempts to sing along with it (”Theodore, I told you not to lose the lyric sheet!”). Brilliant stuff, and the sort of thing I’d definitely impulse buy on CD if such a thing existed.

I, too, am a Chipmunk fan. I prefer them covering tunes from the 50’s and 60’s. But I think the Time Warp is perfect for them. They should also cover some They Might Be Giants tunes. No Dave on the album, bummer man. Alvin’s and Dave’s creative differences are half the fun of any album.

I hope the Archie’s album does well too. It be nice to have some good bubble gum pop back on the charts.
