I’ve been watching each episode as it was released via iTunes over the last bunch of months, and I have *loved* the thing.

For those of us who don’t have the greatest eyes, the much-beloved grid can make picking out details kinda tricky… having each panel blown up on a 62″ screen has allowed me to easily see little things that I missed while reading the book.

And based on the iTunes reviews, I’m clearly in the minority regarding the male narrator doing female voices… to me, it’s no different than listening to the male narrator of American Gods doing all of the female voices in the audiobook.

D’oh…. Yeah, I see that now. I skimmed KC’s article rather hurriedly while waiting for an appointment and was, frankly, surprised he didn’t mention it. Looks like I scrolled right past it. My faith in KC’s bottomless pit of comics knowledge is restored :)

To clarify, since I’ve also watched the whole DVD, the Motion Comic *does* include the parts of Tales of the Black Freighter that are featured in the Watchmen comic proper (or possibly slightly abridged versions of them; as KC notes, some of the dialogue has been cut for time). The stuff that’s excluded is all the back-of-the-book material: Under the Hood, the Sally Jupiter interview, etc.

Kind of sounds like the old Marvel cartoons from the 60′s where they took Kirby’s original art and sliced’n'diced and added sound effects, etc. Pretty cool when I was about 6 years old – was, in fact, my first exposure to the characters. Not so cool when I saw them again years later.

I had been wondering, when I saw the ads for it in today's Best Buy circular, if it was what I thought it was, so it's nice to have that verified. Now I'm wondering what the point of it all is, and who thought there would be an actual market for it.
