lol i grew up with both jonny quest i was 6 when the real adventures of jonny quest came out and i’d watch the reruns of the old serise im a girl so my dad thought it was funny that i’d watch it since it was what he concidered a boys cartoon [haveing 2 brothers and being some what of a tomboy will do that to you] the action and non stop danger that jonnys dad for some reason allowed his son and best friends daughter and hadji to be in never stoped to amaze my mom. i for one can say i was very addicted to the show [i even went as far to have a crush on jonny(being six years old i could get away with it lol)] so wish they would bring it back or do the live action movie they were suppose to do
all i know it was very popular to my first grade class and what one and still is one of my favorite old school show

I’m watching the Curse of Anubis as I write this response. Jonny Quest was (and is) bar none the best action cartoon ever produced. It had everything. Violence, gunplay, fighting and killing were all a regular staple on the show. To those who would be PC and protect our kids from the likes of Jonny Quest I say get a life.

I was about 11 when this show premiered, and I loved it so, so much. I had only seen one or two episodes of the original, so I didn’t have much to base it on, but the adventures were fun, and I remember going ga-ga over the toys in stores (though I never owned any…) And the theme song is still fantastic, as you mentioned.

There’s a reason my fake id name was Johnny Quest.
Of course, that was before 9/11 and fake id’s became a bigger ‘danger point’.
Quest was truly from a different era.

I agree with you (I was 3yrs old when the original Jonny premiered) so this new Jonny wasn’t designed to be mine either. But- why then bring back Jonny at all?
This always gets me when these corporations feel the need to “revive” or “bring back” older series (whether it be TV shows, movies or comic books) for a new generation.

WHY?

If they’re going to change the original to fit/suit new tastes, why not simply create something new and ORIGINAL? Why rehash something for the new generation? Don’t they deserve their own series/characters to call their own?

When older series/characters are brought back, and “creatively updated” all they do is piss off the original fans and (usually) bore the new viewers.

KC, I loved the old Jonny Quest. I saw it in reruns and couldn’t get enough of it. Ah, the days when Hanna Barbara got away with serious violence in their cartoons. Ironically, the character of Jonny wasn’t the biggest draw for me. It was the adventure genre in general. The show felt like a kid’s version of James Bond.

I did enjoy the Real Adventures of Jonny Quest too. I liked the redesign, and this was before I was an anime fan. (Sign of things to come.) Jonny being upstaged didn’t bother me. I felt that in this new version Hadji was finally getting his due.

Oddly I’ve always disliked the original cartoon for some reason. Yet found the new cartoon, especially Jessie entertaining.

It was always coming home just as I was getting in from college, and I’d watch it to unwind at times.

One more thing to add: just before the series began, Cartoon Network (back when they were still just showing mainly old cartoons) had one last Jonny Quest marathon and announced that this was the last time JQ would be shown EVER and IIRC faded to black during the very last bumper.

What nerve! Of course, the old classic JQs were back in a year or two.

And that 8-year-old was probably me, trying to program my own QuestWorld through the only thing I knew could type on the computer, Microsoft Word.

(Your story about watching Original Quest in a bar is way better though.)
