Wow, I wish I still had access to the books to double-check now because it sounds like I really mixed up the characters!

It took me a while to realize that this story is set *before* the events of the first book, shedding new light on a younger Reiichiro. [...] If you look at this book as Jinnai's story, and if you're familiar with the previous volume, you'll realize this book can't have a permanent happy ending. [...]But then, I'm not going to believe in their love because I already think Reiichiro belongs with Haru.

Hmm?

Unless I'm missing something big here, YWDIL isn't a pre-quil; it happens at the same time as YWFIL, and shows some of the same events (but from the other character's POV). I can't recall anything about YWFIL that means that Jinnai/Reiichiro won't work out. The entire plot of YWFIL is that Haru ends up with Tsukasa, not Reiichiro; YWDIL shows Reiichiro' turn at romance.
