Warner Bros. Starts HD DVD Trade-In Program
April 22, 2009

red2blu

Warner Bros. has just announced Red2Blu, a trade-in program for discs in the defunct HD DVD format. If you own WB HD DVDs (including some box sets), you can visit the site, check them off, mail in the original DVD cover art, and get the same title on Blu-ray for $4.95 per title plus $6.95 shipping and handling in the continental US. (Postage to Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico costs more; the offer isn’t valid for international customers.)

There’s a 25-disc limit and only one copy of a movie per household; the offer expires at the end of 2009. If you read the rules PDF, you’ll also find this:

By Participating in the Program, you are also eligible to receive a coupon in the form of a promotional code for fifteen dollars ($15.00) off your purchase of fifty dollars ($50.00) worth of Blu-ray titles at regular prices on the WBShop.com site. Your $15.00 promotional code expires December 31, 2009.

That may be a deal worth it in itself for some.

The Ultimate Matrix collection would be great, as the Animatrix is in HD on the blu-ray, the HD-DVD had it in standard def.
